Interview: 10 questions

1. When did you start making music, what is/was your motivation to do it?
I am a classically trained musician, I play brass instruemnts since primary school.
In the secondary school, I used to play in a rock band with my friends, but I started to discover more underground music styles soon…
I founded my first own project in 2005, and I recorded the first demo in 2006, January. It was a black metal project, nothing special,
but it was great to earn experience in making and recording music in solo. In three years I have discovered many new styles in underground music
scenes and as my taste in music imporved, I started experimenting with new styles. Mørk Skog was founded in 2006., the early recordings contained
minimalistic ambient music on keyboards and some experimtents with field recordings making natural soundscapes (eg. voices of a forest).
My motivation is to put my ideas to sounds and also to try strange ways, experiments to make music…

2. Tell me something about your living environment and the musical education.
I live in the capital city of Hungary, in a usual, peaceful family.
I’m learning geology in a university. As I’ve already told, I am classically trained, and it helps me a lot to compose and play my own music.
I have learnt to play the trumpet (for 8 years), the horn (for 2 years) and the trombone (for 4 years).

3.Is making music your profession? What is the context in which you practice music nowadays?
No, it’s “only” a hobby, but it would be great! Besides my solo works, I am involed in other projects in Hungary’s
industrial and underground metal scene, and I also play the trombone in a symphonic orchestra.

4. How do you compose or create music or sound? Have you certain principles, use certain styles etc?
Usually, I sit down to my synths and my computer, and start experimenting with sounds and melodies…
Sometimes I got intuition and just write a good melody, but it is not usual.
About principles and styles… It depends on, which project I’m working on…

5. Tell me something about the instruments, technical equipment or tools you use?
I use many different, mainly virtual modular synths, I especially like analog modelled ones.
For MIDI controlling I use and old Yamaha SHS10 and a newer Casio CTK591 synth.
I also use a hardware effect processor and simple guitar distortion pedals, mosty BOSS.
For some tracks I also used electric guitar, and sometimes I use weird stuff too, eg. tin cans as percussion…

6. What are the chances of New Media for the music production in general and you personally?
I think it is great that New Media organises such competitions and exhibitions, and I hope my music can be heard by more people.

7. How about producing and financing your musical productions?
I must finiace it, usually, when I earn some money I invest it into some new instruments or studio equipments, but it’s not a problem. That’s my life! 🙂

8. Do you work individually as a musician/soundartist or in a group or collaborative? If you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?
At the monent, besides my solo projects, I am working in two bands, a neofolk/marital industrial band and an EBM/dark electro project.
I think it’s different, but both of them is great – also working alone and do everything on your own, and also working as a collective and put everyone’s ideas into the music.

9. Is there any group, composer, style or movement which has a lasting influence on making music?
I have many favourite composers and bands, but Richard Wagner’s wonderful music, and the whole romantic era
was always a big influence for me.

10. What are your future plans or dreams as a soundartist or musician?
Of course I want more people to know my music, and maybe one day I can live from my music…
Unfortunately, there’s not too much chance for that as an experimental artist.
