Interview: 10 questions

1. When did you start making music, what is/was your motivation to do it?

I started making music by learning classical piano when I was 6 or 7.

2. Tell me something about your living environment and the musical education.

I am always surrounded by music – even when I don’t listen to any music from outside. I was playing many different analog and digital instruments during my life.

3.Is making music your profession? What is the context in which you practice music nowadays?

No. I came “back to the roots” by now playing the classical guitar or piano sometimes – without reflecting too much on music theory. I listen to my intuition only. After all the experiences with electronic music it turns me into a meditation atmosphere. Also the tactility of these analog interfaces means great pleasure to me.

4. How do you compose or create music or sound? Have you certain principles, use certain styles etc?

I create acoustic environments by heart. Although certain principles can be inspiring I do not really want to put sound into categories or any other border phenomenon.

5. Tell me something about the instruments, technical equipment or tools you use?

I would like to have access to more physical electronic hardware that one would find in studios etc. But also I think that with very pure utilities – like a consumer microphone, portable audio recorder and some open source audio software on can result quite interesting and professional results.

6. What are the chances of New Media for the music production in general and you personally?

I have grown into New Media “naturally”. I would not like to miss any of these tools. But also stepping back to elderly media like Long Play Tapes and analog instruments – as I was saying already – can be inspiring. No digital hardware will ever be capable to simulate the same atmosphere during production process.

7. How about producing and financing your musical productions?

I am producing with no budget.

8. Do you work individually as a musician/sound artist or in a group or collaborative? If you have experience in both, what is the difference, what do you prefer?

Both can be very experiencing! It really depends the contexts!

9. Is there any group, composer, style or movement which has a lasting influence on making music?

My journey on electronic underground dance music including Stockhausen and Ligeti. I have to mention Phillip Glass and Arvo Pärt. But also we mustn’t forget Bach, Vivaldi, and … I don’t know – do u know Ponies in the surf for example?

10. What are your future plans or dreams as a sound artist or musician?
